Chimnea. Fireplace for small spaces
BRIEF
To design an outdoor fireplace suitable for small outdoor spaces such as a balcony.
On a cold day, the idea of designing a compact fireplace was born. Inspired by the timeless form of traditional Mexican chimineas, this project reimagines the classic outdoor fireplace to fit modern, space-conscious living.
With a sleek and minimal aesthetic, this design is ideal for small balconies and patios, offering warmth and ambiance without taking up too much space.
We explored various forms inspired by the traditional chiminea, balancing aesthetics with functionality. Early concepts featured wider bases for stability, but they occupied too much space. A taller, slimmer profile was considered for better smoke ventilation but proved less stable. The final design refines these elements, maintaining a compact footprint while ensuring efficient airflow and safety.”
During initial user observations, the compact size of the fireplace allowed it to fit comfortably on small balconies. Users appreciated how the detachable chimney made assembly simple and intuitive. However, some users found the base could benefit from an additional heat shield to protect delicate surfaces.
Designed for urban living, this compact fireplace adds warmth and ambiance to small patios and balconies. Its sleek form ensures stability, efficient ventilation, and easy storage.
